Inspiration: Supakitch + Koralie

Hey guys! Sorry Victoria and I have been MIA. Our world has been a whirlwind of to do lists, vendor events and meetings. With a crazy schedule and the constant drive to push forward, we all need a time out to soak in a little inspiration. Here is a little quench of inspirational that should help retain an open mind.

I present Supakitch and Koralie. This French duo creates fanciful large scale murals with use of freehand and mixed media. I’m drawn to their graphic style and entire process. The whole experience enraptures them and the work shows.

Now that I’ve watched the video, I can’t wait to start sketching new jewelry designs!

What do you think?

Song Fashions joins Art Outside 2011

Oh October, how I love thee! October is a very special month for Victoria, as her birthday just so happens to land on Halloweeeeen!!! Every year we go all out with pumpkin everything, costumes, fun parties and camping adventures. To start us off on one of our favorite months, we are headed to Apache Pass for Art Outside 2011.

This three day festival runs from October 7–9. The outdoor event will showcase art, music, performers and eclectic fashion. Camping is available for those who wish to soak in both the day and night experiences. Hot showers are also available and can I say, “thank goodness!” In 2009 I participated as a
feature artist alongside my sweet girlfriend and professional body painter, Hannah Carlock. One night we woke up literally floating in our tent. If it weren’t for the showers and amazing friends with dry clothes, we would have never made it. It was an experience I’ll never forget.

Song Fashions will vendor this year, so come out to play and stop by our booth to say hello. For more information and to purchase your tickets please visit
www.artoutside.org.

Henry + The Invisibles

Tomorrow, is the big debut for Song Fashions. As much as I'm excited to show the public the jewelry Victoria Alt and I have been designing, I'm even more excited to see Henry + The Invisibles.

For those of you who are not familiar with Henry Roland, he is one funky brother. This one man funk band energizes the room with his rhythmic beats, colorful lights and high energy. Henry + The Invisibles is a show you do not want to miss. He has opened for some big names in the industry such as No Doubt, Ghostland Observatory, and recently Lauren Hill.

There is honestly no right way to describe his music. If you mix a little soul, drench it with funk, sprinkle around some glow sticks, tie in a bass solo alongside a tambourine, a little alien costume here and there... that is the closest you'll get to understanding Henry without witnessing yourself.

Below are some photos I took from his show at Stubb’s BBQ.

Come out Thursday and check out my friend Henry + The Invisibles. Browse through the lovely racks at Langford Market, shop at our Song Fashions display case and have some refreshments. See you Thursday!

August 25th, 6–9 pm (Henry starts at 7pm)
Langford Market
249 W 2nd Street

Utilize City Hall Parking across the street. Langford Market will validate your tickets.

AFW 2011 Kickoff Event

This past Saturday was the Austin Fashion Week Kickoff event, Style, Speed and Glory. I had so much fun sharing the experience with great company; sister and business partner Victoria, Volcom model Chelsey Salisbury and the handsome Ben Miller. Mean Harleys decorated the backdrop of free drinks, tasty samplings of local resturants and of course fashion. Here are some shots from the event.

Our model, Marie Boone did a great job walking our look down the runway.

Our mashup team, Alice in Austin

Cowboy Harely Davidson

Victoria, Mandy Dugan, and Jennifer

Alchemy Design and Feathers' vintage store owner. Their look below was my personal favorite.

Designers Jessica Ciarla, Lana Chu and makeup artist Nisa Nicole with Song Fashions.

I crave this sweater from the Betsey Johnson collection.

I want to combine these two looks!

CW Austin: Song Fashions Makes It's Debut

It was a pleasure having been interviewed by Mandy Dugan from KXAN, CW Austin. We met at Langford Market to chat about Song Fashions’ debut during Austin Fashion Week. Check out the video below.

This is what Mandy said about Song Fashions:

The ladies were inspired to create the line after vacationing in Thailand. Their jewelry includes colorful embroidery, statement rings and even more exquisite pieces. You can take a first look at all their fun and fashionable line at the, Fashion Pop, showcasing taking place at Langford Market on Thursday, August 25th from 6:00-9:00. There will be music, cocktails, cupcakes and –of course- fabulous fashion!"

What is this Austin Fashion Week you speak of?

For Song Fashions it is our official launch to the public and we couldn’t be more excited! Our close friends have seen the growth of Song Fashions. Personal sacrifices were made in order to dedicate more time into developing our brand. Our hard work is paying off as we are approached by new and exciting opportunities everyday.

For everyone else, Austin Fashion Week consists of a series of events in local boutiques and venues highlighting the talents of local designers, with statewide photographers, hair stylist, makeup artists and models. Everyone will work through a process to determine the best of the best.

The 3rd annual event will commence August 20th with the kick off event, Speed, Style and Glory at the Cowboy Harley Davidson Showroom. Grouped Mash Up Teams will showcase their cohesive look on the runway alongside Betsey Johnson and MotorClothes by Harley Davidson.
You can purchase tickets here. If you can’t make it out, swing by Langford Market all week to check out our wears.

Mash Up Teams
As jewelry designers, we’ve been grouped together in a “Mash Up Team”. Our team, Alice in Austin, consists of clothing designer Ciarla, photographer Julian Humphries, makeup artist Nisa Nicole, hair stylist Misty Mittelstedt, and of course jewelry designer Song Fashions. Together Alice in Austin will create a cohesive look to walk the runway on August 20th. In addition the team will submit an editorial photograph in competition with the other mash up teams. The photographs will be voted under both Industry Choice and People Choice Awards.

Showcase Designers
As participating designers, Song Fashions was invited to submit one sample to Austin Fashion Week for consideration as Show Case Designers. We submitted our beloved Nouveau Necklace and won! As Showcase Designers we have teamed up with Langford Market to put on Fashion Pop, our showcased event on August 25th. Stay tuned for more details.

Inspire to dream big

I came across these images today. The art work created by  Janet Echelman, are large sculptural installations that dance with the wind. I appreciate the idea of designing art that morphs and adapts with the shift of its surrounding environment. Just as humans do. We strive to be somebody and achieve certain things in our lifetime but often second guess change. Just as these urban sculptural pieces, we should embrace change. When we free ourselves, the manifestation of change is where the beauty of life discovery lies.

XO,
Song Fashions
